About Us

When we started our journey 13 years ago in 2008, there was a confusion of concepts and standards in private ballet schools in Turkey. Some of the schools that provided good education were not very popular, and instead the schools that did not provide quality education but that advertised a lot were known to everyone. Advertising was the only criterion of quality education. We (Daniela Hristova and Sabahattin Bey, the founder of Pera Fine Arts) decided to bring the world-renowned Russian Ballet System to Turkey to support quality education. We spoke with the head of the ballet department of the Sofia National Academy of Music – Kalina Bogoeva, and she agreed to support us.

At that time, there was a system adapted for amateur ballet schools by Kalina Bogoeva and was implemented in Greece. We signed an agreement with the Bulgarian National Academy of Music and started to organize our first teacher training. There was not much participation in the first years, but then our system became very popular. In 2019, approximately 30 schools and 800 ballet students participated in the Degree Exams, and 100 people received training at our Varna Summer School. More than 120 ballet teachers participated in our Pedagogical Formation training for 12 years.

In 2020, we had to make some changes due to the Pandemic. Our pedagogical formation training and degree exams are now done online, we have made a new program that meets the current conditions. We are currently working with New Bulgarian University and Associate Professor Maria Ilieva.

Our educator

Maria Ilieva

Maria Ilieva is one of the most important figures in the current classical dance scene in Bulgaria. She graduated from the Vaganova academy in St. Petersburg where she studied under the guidance of M. Trofimova and F. Balabina, one of A. Vaganova’s students. Upon graduation, Maria Ilieva was invited to join the famous Kirov (Mariinsky) Ballet, but chose to come back to Bulgaria and join the Sofia National Ballet instead, where she was quickly promoted to prima-ballerina.

Maria Ilieva has been teaching of the Ballet Pedagogics department of the National Academy of Music since 1999 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010. In addition, she has worked as a ballet master at the National School of Dance Art between 1994 – 2000. She founded her own private ballet school in 1995.

Between 2001 – 2003, Maria Ilieva was the artistic director of Sofia National Ballet. Currently she works as a répétiteur for the company.

She often conducts seminars at home and abroad and is frequently invited as a jury at many international competitions.
